The Introduction to Contemporary Thought UC is relevant to the Accounting, Taxation and Auditing course insofar as, among other possibilities, it helps to form a critical analysis of contemporary society, benefiting from the contributions of various authors to think about some of the main social issues present on the national and international scene, involving in a triangular way the State and international organizations such as the UN, UNESCO, IMF, ILO and WTO; Society and the Business scene.

Syllabus
1. The genesis of contemporary Western thought and the decolonial question; 2. The political thought of Confucius, Machiavelli, Egidio Romano, Hobbes and Montesquieu; 3. Liberal thought: John Locke, Adam Smith, Stuart Mill and the main strands of liberal thought; 4. Marxist thought, the World System, Developmentalism and Globalization - Western Marxismand the PES Method (CEPAL) ; 5. The idea of modernity, post-modernity and its crises; Revolution, Transformation, Conservative Modernization and the crisis of liberalism, democracy and the “neos”; 8. Political and economic thought and ideas in the 20th century: Science, World Wars, the UN, Human Rights, Democracy and the European Union; 9. the 21st century and the “new ideas” in Europe and the world - social networks and mobilizations; Agenda 2030 and Sustainable Development (SDGs): State, Society and Business: identities, citizenship, immigration, gender, accessibility, prejudices, public and citizen science.

Objectives
Objectives
The aim of this course is to provide students, firstly, with the conceptual tools needed not only to effectively operationalize analytical, reflective and articulated thinking on the major contemporary issues, but also, secondly, with the skills that will enable them to understand the major currents of thought that have most influenced and are influencing contemporary society. Students should acquire the ability to critically analyze the different stages of Contemporary Thought and be able to adapt the theories of different authors to the reality of the 21st century, in line with some of the main international trends and recommendations such as the Declaration of Human Rights, the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are relevant to the promotion of social justice, sustainable, environmental and economic development.

Teaching methodologies and assessment
Classes require space for student participation. Debate and critical analysis of the materials presented in class are encouraged. The assessment presupposes the completion of 1 written mandatory knowledge assessment test, the delivery of a written work and presentation carried out in a group, with participation in class being considered. Test 50% + 25% Written Work + 25% Presentation,Participation and Presence.
