    The curricular unit aims to introduce knowledge related to the disciplinary area of ¿¿Architecture, proposing the analysis of the architectural characteristics of buildings, in terms of the construction process, the materials used, as well as the representation system, in the Design. In this sense, it is developed from three training modules. The first dedicated to construction materials, from which we reflect on traditional construction systems, then the materials use in modern era and, finaly, the contemporary materials. The second module reflects on the graphic representation - the architectural project -, highlighting its elaboration, the representation of plans, sections and elevations, and construction details. The third module is dedicated to the relationship between the disciplinary areas, having as a reference the architectural project, that is, the relationship between Architecture and Engineering, in a Project Coordination aspect.

    Syllabus

    1 - Construction materials. Type and method of use of construction materials, summarized in three periods. Traditional materials refer to the use of stone, clay and wood; industrial materials, which emerged after the Industrial Revolution, Steel, Glass, as composition material, and Concrete and, finally, contemporary materials, addressing the diversity of materials that are used today. For each type of material, the construction system will be discussed, resulting in an image that is recognized over time, type of openings, etc... 2 - The graphic representation of the project that integrates the project, translating, 1st, the functional organization, the program, through the plant; 2nd the spatial organization, the representation of sections and finally the representation of elevations. 3 - From project to construction - coordination between specialties. Interdisciplinarity in the project between different disciplinary areas, based on the elaboration of the Architecture project.

    Objectives

    Understand the relationship between three aspects that complement each other in analyzes about Architecture, as a discipline inherent to knowledge, and as a professional practice. Acquire skills regarding the ability to analyze the spatial and volumetric carachteistics of buildings, internal and external variables. The representation system that is used in the preparation of projects, from which the Architect's knowledge is articulated with the Engineering knowledge in its various components. Acquire skills relating the stability of buildings with their materiality, the way materials are used, in their diversity, and from which architectural space, Architecture, is interpreted.
  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    The UC program adapts to a distance learning format, in synchronous mode, preferably. In this sense, for this format, the teaching load is divided into two separate sessions, each lasting one and a half hours. In this one, 45 min. are dedicated to the presentation of content by the teacher. After this period, before a short break, a discussion of doubts is proposed. The break lasts 15 minutes. After this period, it is up to the class, the students, in a period of approximately 30 minutes, to demonstrate through online research that they recognize the elements that were previously presented in the expository content. Research carried out during this period is considered for evaluation, being complemented with others outside the academic period, between weekly expository sessions. In each of the 13 weeks of the academic period, this approach will be developed, with the presentation class, and the final class, for the presentation of the work carried out.
