Class Signals and Systems

  • Presentation

    Presentation

It is a mandatory subject, a basis of engineering. Notions of signals and systems are common to a wide variety of areas scientific research. The methods and techniques associated with them play a important role in such diverse areas of science and technology as Communications Networks, Circuit Design, Control, Generation and Distribution Systems of Energy, Control of Chemical Processes, Acoustics, Seismology, etc. Although disciplines of such a diverse nature, and corresponding to phenomena physicists of a completely different nature, the study of signals and systems is associated with the development of a common basic formalism.

  • Syllabus

    Syllabus

    1. Signals and Systems 2. Linear Time-Invariant Systems (LTIs) 3. Z Transform 4. Discrete Fourier Transform 5. Time Response of Causal LTIs 6. Differences equations
  • Objectives

    Objectives

The plan is to: - Present the basics of Signal Theory and Theory of Linear and Time Invariant (LTI) Systems. In this way the students will be able to understand, develop and design control systems, which can be applied in various areas of engineering. - Develop a broad knowledge of concepts and principles of Signals and Systems, which permits the student to apply this knowledge to systems that are governed by the same principles. - Acquire the capability to analyze and manipulate signals and LTI Systems, represented in both the time and frequency domain, using the Z and discrete Fourier Transforms.
  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

Theoretical classes: Exposition of the contents of the discipline; Theoretical-practical classes: Resolution of practical exercises on contents previously studied in theoretical classes
