Objectives
By the end of this course, students should be able to: Knowledge Identify the main national and European legal instruments relevant to the use of information and communication technologies. Describe fundamental rights regarding data protection and privacy in digital environments. Explain basic legal concepts related to cybercrime, digital intellectual property, electronic contracts, and artificial intelligence. Skills and Competencies Interpret legal norms applicable to specific situations in the context of information technologies. Apply correctly the principles of the GDPR and Portuguese legislation in practical scenarios. Critically analyse common digital practices, recognising legal and ethical risks.

Teaching methodologies and assessment
The course adopts active, student-centered methodologies that promote meaningful learning through problem-solving, simulation of practical cases, and analysis of up-to-date legislation and case law. Digital resources are used (interactive platforms, videos, quizzes), along with collaborative work in the classroom, to develop critical thinking and the practical application of legal concepts. Learning is further supported by self-assessment tools and continuous feedback, fostering students' autonomy and responsibility throughout the learning process.
