These skills include searching and critically appraising scientific information, along with writing scientific texts and reporting scientific information both in writing and orally. This curricular unit aims to foster these skills through practical exercises with supervision in all laboratory classes

    1. Scientific literature search: - Research questions as a starting point. - Goals of literature search. - Sources of scientific information. - Scientific databases (e.g., PsycInfo, PubMed, SciELO, Google Scholar). - Boolean searches. 2. Selection and critical appraisal of scientific articles: - Classification of scientific articles. - Reading scientific articles - Structure of quantitative articles. - Critical appraisal of quantitative and qualitative articles based on the APA's JARS. 3. Scientific writing: - Characteristics. - Authorship and plagiarism. - APA style for scientific texts: formatting citations, references, text, tables, and figures. 4. Scientific information presented in different formats: Presentations; Posters; Publication of scientific papers

    Objectives

    The main objective of this curricular unit is the development of basic skills in literature research and reading, as well as scientific writing and reporting in the field of psychology. Specifically, students should: 1)Remember: Identify relevant scientific databases and describe the types of search equations suitable for research questions. 2)Understand: Explain the criteria of the Journal Article Reporting Standards (JARS) of the APA for classifying and evaluating scientific articles. 3)Apply: Conduct effective bibliographic searches using scientific databases and appropriate search criteria while adhering to APA guidelines. 4)Analyze: Compare and critically evaluate scientific articles based on APA standards. 5)Evaluate: Justify the selection of relevant bibliographic sources and validate the quality of scientific texts. 6)Create: Write original scientific texts, including literature reviews, and develop scientific communications

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    This curricular unit includes laboratory classes with supervision. All classes start with a theoretical presentation of the contents, followed by application exercises, using computers and the Internet. Individually or in small groups, students conduct literature searches in scientific databases, critically appraise and write scientific texts, present scientific data in different formats, and use APA style.
