    The UC aims to provide students with basic knowledge and skills in the fields of quantitative research methodology, statistical science, and data analysis applied to Social Sciences, particularly in the design of quantitative studies, descriptive data analysis, application of inferential analysis techniques and procedures, and the writing and presentation of results considering specific problems in the field of Psychology. The knowledge and skills acquired in this UC directly and broadly impact the study cycle, as the content taught enables the appropriation of the processes and results of scientific research in the area of Psychology.

    PC1. Statistics and data analysis applied to research in Psychology; PC2. Introduction to quantitative research methodology; PC3. Introduction to statistical data analysis software: JASP®; PC4. Univariate descriptive statistics; PC5. The foundations of statistical inference: introduction to probability theory; PC6. Parameter estimation and hypothesis testing; PC7. Analysis of sampling distributions; PC8. Parametric and non-parametric tests: assumptions and conditions for application; PC9. Hypothesis tests for one population: Student's t-test for one sample/Wilcoxon signed-rank test; PC10. Hypothesis tests for two independent populations: Student's t-test for two independent samples/Mann-Whitney U test; PC11. Pearson correlation coefficient (Pearson's r); PC12. Writing and graphical presentation of results according to APA 7th Edition standards.
  • Objectives

    Objectives

    (LO1) construct a research question and state study hypotheses; (LO2) identify variables and measures considering their nature, type, and level of measurement; (LO3) define a study population and plan the sampling process; (LO4) use the statistical data analysis software JASP® appropriately and effectively; (LO5) apply different statistical procedures considering the research objectives; (LO6) calculate indicators to aggregate information contained in the data; (LO7) clearly present descriptive statistical data; (LO8) apply basic concepts of inferential statistics to the study of a population and two independent populations; (LO9) calculate and analyze point and interval estimates of parametric and non-parametric parameters; (LO10) calculate and quantify the relationship between two quantitative variables; (LO11) clearly present inferential statistical data.

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    The teaching-learning process is supported by active methodologies, emphasizing experimentation, autonomous and cooperative work, and project-based work driven by students and built upon their own interests and motivations. Additionally, whenever possible, students may be involved in ongoing research projects in the R&D unit associated with EPVC.
