It seeks to equip future professionals with essential theoretical and methodological skills for implementing local development projects, promoting citizen participation, and strengthening communities. This unit adopts a critical and reflective approach, preparing students to intervene in diverse community contexts, fostering social inclusion, empowering populations, and building collective solutions to contemporary social challenges.

    Objectives

    1.    Understand the fundamental concepts of community, local development, and citizen participation. 2.    Identify factors that influence community participation, understanding its different levels and impacts. 3.    Analyze the role of community Social Work, its historical context, principles, and practices. 4.    Explore community intervention methodologies, with an emphasis on the different phases of Community Intervention Projects (PIC). 5.    Develop skills in community mobilization and engagement using participatory approaches. 6.    Deepen knowledge of social diagnosis and participatory planning, essential for building effective projects. 7.    Equip students to design community intervention projects, considering effectiveness and social impact criteria.  
  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching: It will be used expository, interrogative and participatory methodologies through debates promotion from texts, examples of community intervention projects, interaction with professionals working in community projects and/or carrying out study visits. Students are expected to present group work, using new technologies and focusing on the development of oral skills and rules for the presentation of works.   Assessment: The assessment will be continuous, based on the following elements: 1) Two individual written test (70%); 2) Group work with presentation and oral discussion in the classroom (30%); 3) Individual critical reflection (10%). The grade of each of the elements must be greater than or equal to 9,5 points. The appeal exam will consist in a written test (100%), with a minimum grade for approval is 9,5 points.
