The main objective of this unit is to provide students with the essential knowledge and skills to plan, manage and promote the sustainable development of tourism by addressing management concepts and territorial planning with a focus on tourism development. In this way, it aims to enable students to participate in the effective management of destinations in order to integrate the objectives of the industry with the environmental balance and the well-being of the local population.

Objectives
Objectives
By the end of this Curricular Unit, students must be able to: Understand the main definitions and approaches to planning, as well as their application to tourism planning. Differentiate the concepts of growth and development, as well as measure the latter based on indicators. Use planning concepts to think tourism as a tool for local development. Understand the tourism planning system in Portugal throughout history and nowadays. Make good use of the main analysis models of tourism development for diagnostic purposes. Plan the development of tourist destinations to attain objectives of both competitiveness and sustainability. Analyse and identify good practices of case studies in tourism development.

Teaching methodologies and assessment
Digital pedagogy tools like Padlet and project-based learning methods will be applied.to evaluated activities. Student reflection and discussion will be stomulated using various techniques such as team-based learning.
