    The Sociology of Education course provides a critical analysis of the relationship between education and society. Based on the foundations of Sociology, it explores the genesis and evolution of the school model, examining its role in social reproduction or transformation. It aims to develop skills in the sociological analysis of educational phenomena, which are fundamental for understanding and intervening in contemporary challenges in education. Through a theoretical-practical approach, it prepares master's students for an informed reflection on educational policies and practices, enabling them to research and intervene in different educational contexts, contributing to their construction of analytical tools to understand and influence the complex dynamics between education and society.

    Knowledge: • Understand the theoretical foundations of the Sociology of Education. • Analyze the genesis and evolution of the school model from a sociological perspective. • Identify theories about the role of education in social reproduction and transformation. • Recognize the contemporary challenges of education in the societal context. Skills: • Develop the ability to critically analyze the relationships between education and society. • Apply sociological concepts in the interpretation of educational phenomena. • Develop informed reflections on educational policies and practices. • Use sociological research methodologies in educational contexts. Competencies: • Critically analyze educational phenomena in different social contexts. • Assess the impact of educational policies on society. • Propose interventions based on educational contexts. • Develop research projects that link education and society.

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Classes include classical exposition as well as provision of online theoretical materials for prior study, dedicating class time to in-depth discussions and practical activities (flipped classroom) and organization of structured debates on controversial topics in sociology of education, stimulating critical thinking and argumentation by the students.
