This unit has as an objective to allow students to obtain the technical knowledge needed to engage in scientific research within the context of Communication Sciences, and to acquire the critical tools needed to evaluate other research projects. This training is fundamental to prepare students for other assingments durign the degree, and to do the thesis or final project at the end of the Masters'. This unit focuses on issues of epistemology of science, methodological processes and different modes of scientic writing.

- Epistemological, ontological, and axiological issues in research. - Ethics in research in Communication and Data Management. - How to conduct a literature review. Use of software to support bibliography creation. - Preparing research questions as the first step. - Families of research methods – quantitative, qualitative, mixed. - Preparing a research plan. - Academic writing techniques. - Scientific production and science dissemination.

Objectives
- Understand the basic principles of the epistemology of science. - Understand the basic principles behind ethics in scientific research, as well as the role of data management. - Understand the basic practices behind academic referencing. - Understand the importance of academic writing structure. - Mobilize different types of knowledge to create a research project. - Know different families of research methods, both quantitative and qualitative. - Be able to systematically manage collected data and develop analysis processes. - Be able to summarize and publicly present this data according to scientific excellence criteria.
