  • Presentation

    Presentation

In this unit, the student develops all the phases of theoretical framework, refinement of the research protocol, and fieldwork. Each doctoral candidate will be accompanied by a team of at least three members: 1. Supervisor 2. Internal examiner (who may or may not be a co-supervisor) 3. Coordinator of the thesis's disciplinary area The supervisor regularly monitors the work of the doctoral candidate (DC). The internal examiner is a university member who assesses the DC during intermediate evaluations. This team can be expanded with external co-supervisors , based on proposals from the supervisors and an assessment of the relevance by the course management.   The coordinator may participate in intermediate evaluations and collaborate in the supervision process if deemed pertinent by both the DC and the supervisor. Additionally, they serve as an extra support element to both DC and supervisor in resolving conflicts or issues that require an additional element.

    Objectives

Students should: Formulate correctly one or more research questions. Establish research objectives that are coherent with the established problem. Conduct a systematized literature review, preferably aiming to develop a manuscript for submission to a peer-reviewed scientific journal. Refine the pre-project by developing the research protocol and conducting data collection.

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

This Course Unit aims to train the doctoral student in various stages of the scientific process. By requesting students to present their work in poster format during a mini-congress, and subsequently conduct an oral evaluation accompanied by a report, we are providing students with the experience of developing and disseminating science. The mini-congress also offers the opportunity for interaction between students from Thesis I and those from the 1st year, thereby facilitating the continuity of research lines.
