Chapter 1 - Road Infrastructure: general concepts  Chapter 2 - Introduction to traffic engineering Chapter 3 - Track geometry  Chapter 4 - Study of the layout and design of a road  Chapter 5 - Earthworks and earthworks  Chapter 6 - Introduction to the study of road pavements  Chapter 7 - Railway infrastructures
  • Objectives

    Objectives

The main learning objectives of the course unit are:  • To know the basic principles of geometric design of roads;  • Know the main design constraints;  • Design the straight and level of a road for a given base speed;  • Characterize the traffic of a road and estimate traffic volumes for design;  • To evaluate the level of service and determine the capacity of a road.  It is also predicted as a general objective:  • Identifying the respective phases of design and implementation in road infrastructure works;  • Reading and interpreting drawings of the specialty of roads.  Development of knowledge for applications of:  • Carrying out projects of road infrastructures;  • Supervising works on road infrastructures;  • Develop projects of earthworks and earthwork;  • Develop a taste for Road Infrastructures.
  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

The curricular unit is divided into theoretical sessions and practical sessions.  Theoretical:  Oral presentation of the main concepts, principles and aspects related to the geometric design of roads.  Practice:  Resolution of application exercises and elaboration of a geometric project of a road by the students.  According to the ULP Evaluation Regulation, the student will choose the evaluation system: continuous or final.  Continuous:  Class questions - 10% Evaluation moments, 2 tests: 70% (35% + 35%)  Practical work - 20%.  Final:  Exam: 100%.
