Class History of Art

  • Presentation

    Presentation

The Curricular Unit aims to provide a broad knowledge on History of Art, understanding it as a fundamental field for our cultural and social constitution. It is understood that artefacts and artworks are heritages, testimonies of the evolution of human civilisation and constitutive of contemporary society. Eastern civilisations are included, avoiding the restriction to the West. From the understanding that the current artistic field requires knowledge about what preceded it, the artistic production of the past is observed, highlighting some artistic movements such as the Renaissance and the modernist avant-gardes, after which contemporary art is explored, already including digital technologies.  Also highlighted, the Bauhaus, a fundamental school in artistic progress and central to the field of Design, related to Communication Design.
