    With this Curricular Unit it is intended that students learn the dynamics of the functioning of the European institutions, mainly with regard to the institutional governance triangle of the Union, recognizing the guiding and delimiting principles of action and delimitation.

    1. The political and legal nature of the European Union. 2. The process of European integration and the evolution of institutions. 3. The guiding principles of the Union's institutional system: principles of specialty or attribution, division of powers, subsidiarity, proportionality, legality and institutional balance. 4. The institutional architecture of the European Union: 4.1. Institutions: European Parliament; Commission, Council of the Union; European Council; Court of Justice and Court of Auditors, European Central Bank; 4.2. Other bodies: advisory, financial, guarantee, interinstitutional; 4.3. Agencies. 5. The institutional architecture of the European Union in the context of specific areas of the Treaties: Common Foreign and Security Policy, Monetary Policy, etc. 6. Decision-making in the European Union 7. Access, representation and participation in the context of community institutions and bodies

    Objectives

    This Curricular Unit aims to pursue the following objectives: 1. Deepen the knowledge of the European Union's institutional architecture, highlighting the main milestones of the evolution of the European project. 2. Appreciate the evolution of the EU's institutional system in view of the political union project. 3. Know the political-institutional dynamics inherent in the functioning of the institutions of the EU, as well as the relative position of each of the institutions. 4. Recognize the link between the supranational and national levels around some EU institutions and bodies.

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Innovative methodologies will be used to support the teaching-learning process, namely digital tools, collective sessions and subsequent debate.
