Class Physical Activity and Health

  • Presentation

    Presentation

This CU - from the 1st cycle and scientific area of Physical Education and Sport - aims to transmit updated knowledge about the relationship between public health and physical fitness levels, and the risk of disease or injury both in physical activity and health (AFS), and in sports performance (ARD). It is intended that students understand the relationship between: 1) the different levels of physical activity and the development of chronic diseases or all-cause mortality; and 2) the different types of loads of exercise and the risk of sports injury. Both the main recommendations for physical activity levels and the most common injury prevention protocols used in different sports will also be conveyed. This conceptual basis is decisive for the correct planning and embellishment of intervention plans in both physical education, AFS, and, also, ARD scopes.

  • Objectives

    Objectives

Students are expected to develop the following learning objectives (LO): LO 1 - Understand the relationship between different levels of physical activity (PA) and health, across the different spectrums of PA, physical education, and sports. LO 2 - Understand the physiological basis of the relationship between PA and health, and between overload and risk of injury; LO 3 - Understand the dose-response relationship of PA and exercise; LO 4 - Understand and apply the main methods for assessing PA and external load; LO 5 - Assess and stratify the risk of disease or injury in different populations; LO 6 - Understand the main recommendations for PA levels and their respective global reference organizations; LO 7 - Understand current national programs for the promotion of PA and the mission of the respective organizations; LO 8 - Plan, based on scientific evidence, effective interventions in the field of PA and health, and injury prevention.
