I. Introduction: Political and economic foundations of Competition Law. Competition Law in Portugal and in the EU
II. The Portuguese Competition Law: comparative analysis with the competition regime in the TFEU.
III. Competition Law in the EU- The competition rules in the TFEU. Rules applicable to undertakings: Articles 101 and 102 of the CJEU. Rules applicable to States: public undertakings and undertakings with special or exclusive rights; Article 106 of the TFEU and the particular case of SGEIs. Restrictive practices; Justification of agreements, concerted practices and decisions of associations of undertakings: notion of dominant position and abuse of economic dependence. Merger Control. Public aids.IV- The Portuguese Legal System: The Competition Authority (PCA). Specificities: Sanctionary procedure; Powers of PCA; Precautionary measures. Regulatory Procedure. Infringements and Sanctions

Objectives
Learning objectives:
1) Knowledge acquisition on competition law, at the national and European dimension;
2) Field of technical-legal and economic concepts underlying the application of competition law, in order to encourage the study and research in this area in its specialized legal double strand, national and European;
3) Develope the capability of solving practical cases through the study of specific cases;
4) Study and understanding of the role of AdC and their concerted intervention with the other sectorial regulatory Authorities;
5) Field of preventive and sanctioning procedural procedures provided for legally in defense of competition;
6) Acquisition of knowledge about the regulation of markets and competition defense, a complex, comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach of national and European legislative instruments most relevant.

Teaching methodologies and assessment
The classes will be oriented in such a way as to reconcile the necessary exposure of content, providing all the support necessary theoretical masters. However, the methodology best suited to learning objectives and competences that they want to achieve, based on the participation of the students through the discussion and preparation of the subjects necessary for the resolution of practical cases proposed. Emphasizes the research and preparation of the themes from the case study, based on analysis of internal administrative authorities, decisions of the European Commission, national courts and, necessarily, of the Court of Justice of the European Union (TJUE).
For each topic of matter to be conducted is defined as the objective of resolution or a case study of practical application of competition rules in analysis, which will serve as guidance for study and evaluation parameter.
