Conference FEMglocal Final Conference
ULusófona gives the stage to feminism, to reflect on the road travelled, the goals achieved and everything that lies ahead

FEMglocal – Glocal feminist movements: interactions and contradictions is a research project based at CICANT, in partnership with CIEG, and funded by FCT. It began in 2021 with the aim of mapping and understanding feminisms in Portugal.
Bridging the digital and the physical, the local and the global, the project has been studying associations, collectives, and feminist activists, listening to their stories, documenting their practices of resistance, and analysing how they organise, communicate, and make their struggles visible. Through this work, FEMglocal has sought to recover the historical memory of national feminist movements that have remained marginalised, highlighting their modes of organisation, mobilisation, and public visibility.
On 7 April 2025, FEMglocal will host its final conference, bringing together the research team, advisors, participants, and the wider community. It will be a moment of gathering and sharing, reflecting on the journey taken, the goals achieved, and the challenges that remain. On that day, we will revisit the History and the stories of feminisms in Portugal, discuss the dynamics of the feminist movement, and collectively envision its future.
The communication of feminist movements will also be a central thread of this conference: we will talk about visibility (or lack thereof) in the media, the role of digital social networks in spreading feminist struggles, and the communication and action strategies adopted by various collectives and associations to reach communities and raise awareness.
More than closing a chapter, this gathering aims to open new pathways, amplifying voices and perspectives on the interactions and contradictions of feminisms today in Portugal.
