Overview

The Faculty of Law and Political Science at Universidade Lusófona - Porto University Centre (FDCP, ULusófona - CUP), recently restructured, is an academic unit that offers undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees in the scientific areas reflected in its name.

In the 2024/25 academic year, the Faculty will offer three undergraduate degrees in:

  • Law
  • European Studies, Lusophone Studies, and International Relations

The master's degrees include:

  • Law (Master’s), with specialisations in Legal and Public Sciences
  • Legal and Criminal Sciences (Master’s)
  • International Relations (Master’s)

And also the joint PhD in Law, in collaboration with the Faculty of Law, ULusófona - CUL:

  • Law (Doctorate)

All courses are accredited by A3ES and are taught by faculty members who are mostly PhD holders and academic career professionals.

The undergraduate and master’s degrees in Law follow the traditional approach of Legal Sciences, with a strong emphasis on the structure and functioning of the Portuguese justice system — a topic we believe deserves special attention, and for which legal professionals must be particularly well prepared.

The undergraduate degree in International Relations has a broader scope, covering subjects not typically offered in similar programmes. The focused attention on topics such as the European Union and Lusophony equips students with valuable knowledge in highly relevant and practical domains.

The Faculty of Law and Political Science places special emphasis on scientific research and dissemination. It maintains academic journals, publishes books, and organises conferences and other events that engage both faculty and students, contributing to the development of an academic community that is both distinctive and outward-looking, and deeply engaged with its educational and societal context.
