Theories and Models of Communication is a curricular unit that aims to provide students with the acquisition of a general and theoretical knowledge of Models and Theories of Communication over the last seven and a half decades, and students must implicitly integrate, in whole or in part , some of the models in the analysis of material collected in the various Mass Media, based on the Programmatic Content and all the inherent and / or consequent material taught, as well as in the realization of knowledge, writing or orally in class.

1. The Role of Information / Communication in the Contemporary World. Information theory, Shannon and Weaver. Autopoietic systems. 2. From mass communication to the networked world. Technological / economic optimism. Frankfurt School: critical theories and communicative action; cultural industry; technical rationality; communication model / meaningful acts; from discursive totalization to informational finitude. 3. Classical Theories. Behaviorist and co-oriented models, from Lasswell to Maletzke. Factors [audience and message). 4. Short-term effects. Mass communication functions; psychological models. 5. Agenda-Setting. Models; dependency effects, centrifuges and centripetals. 6. Gatekeeping / Gatekeepers. Selection, production and news flow. 7. Planned Communication. Media campaigns; communication and marketing. 8. Culturological / cultural studies theory. The Birmingham Center. 9. Niklas Luhmann. Communication / central operator of social systems: communicative improbability.

Objectives
Objectives
Provide students with the necessary knowledge about the Theories and Models of Communication that precede the contemporary Network Society. Provide students with knowledge of the Communication Sciences reassessment processes in light of emerging transformations and the chronology of the theoretical construction of the communicational object. Elucidate the students and make them understand how these studies affect the concepts of "information", "media", "agent" and "communicational process". The processes of mass communication are the main object of the studies to be developed in this curricular unit, being framed by a general question about communication, meaning and contemporary society.
