    The discipline of Zoology - Invertebrates aims to provide students with basic training on the global diversity of invertebrate organisms on the planet. In theoretical classes, the subject will be presented from an evolutionary point of view, emphasizing the main diagnostic characteristics of the various biological groups, their ecology and the successful occupation of the planet's habitats. With the practical classes, it is intended that students apply the knowledge acquired to characterize organisms from different taxonomic groups, giving greater emphasis to morphological aspects and relating the anatomical and functional characteristics with the environment in which they live and with life mode and biological cycles. This is a basic curricular unit for the deepening of other themes that will be addressed during the biology course, at different scales, from biomolecules to ecosystems.

    Objectives

    - Understanding of the basic elements about the constitution of the animals' bodies of the different groups, their shape, structure and function, as well as their organization in systems and characteristics of their metabolism; - relate the anatomic-physiological particularities of organisms with the particularities of the environment where they live and with their life cycle; - learn to distinguish and characterize the different taxonomic groups, using the basic knowledge of zoology, the lexicon that belongs to it and using scientific terms in the description of morphological aspects; - train the ability to perform correct dissections by understanding the anatomy of the organism that is intended to be studied in terms of internal morphology; - practice observation through drawing, photos or films and the identification of structures in preparations and preserved animals; - training in the collection, analysis and processing of biological data, skills to produce scientific papers.
