Presentation
The course aims to present the discourses and languages present in contemporary photography. Whenever possible, it establishes the necessary links with the disciplinary areas of contemporary art and discourse, cinema, and intermediate languages. It recognizes the photographic image as an object of thought and knowledge in its various contexts. Develop research skills and methodologies that enable the development of theoretical work with oral presentation to the class. Understand concepts inherent to contemporary photographic and artistic practice. Be able to produce practical exercises in photographic language.

1- Art and artwork. The phenomenon of art based on the reading of texts (M. Duchamp, M. Heidegger, A. Tarkovsky, Ad Reinhardt) 2 - Photography as art, art as photography. The expanded use of photography 3- Photography in relation to the concepts of appropriation, reproduction, and citation; based on the works of S. Calle, C. Boltanski, C. Sherman, S. Levine, R. Prince, among others; 4- The cinematic and its relationship with the moving image 5- Approaches to cinema. 6- Archive and memory; from A. Warburg to W. Tillmans 7 - The Düsseldorf school and its main protagonists; 8 - The image as object; 9- Ethics and aesthetics; 10- The crisis in the image, real vs. virtual, AI and its paradigms, from J. Fontcuberta to B. Eldagsen; 11 - Contemporary visual discourses and narratives; 12 - Designing and developing a project; 13- Festivals (e.g., Imago Photo Festival, Encontros de Imagem); platforms (Parallel Platform); exhibitions and publications

Objectives
-Address the main trends, themes and discourses of contemporary artistic photography and its stakeholders. - to analyze the diversity of contemporary uses of photography in the context of the history of photographic image and of artistic practices and theories in general. -Develop critical and analytical skills. -Contextualize artists/photographers, practices and uses of contemporary photography; Relate formal/aesthetic aspects, with the various contexts and categories. _ Start practicing photography projects. _ Develop research capabilities.

Teaching methodologies and assessment
The curricular unit has a theoretical-practical nature, including the presence of practical exercises. In this way, the methodologies range from the development of cognitive and reflective skills, encouraging analysis and criticism, to proposals for statements to carry out practical exercises. Study visits to exhibitions and festivals / visits to artists’ studios;
