    1. The history of Swimming, the justifications for its practice. 2. Organization of the sport, institutions, disciplines, and competitions. 3. Introduction to the Pedagogy/Didactics of Swimming 3.1. Teaching progressions through exercises and goal setting 3.2. Lesson planning 3.3. Adaptation to the aquatic environment, learning and improving swimming techniques, starting and turning. 3.4. Performance of swimming techniques, starting and turning. 4. Body behavior in water 4.1. Physiological effects of immersion and exercise in water 4.2. Physical properties of water and their applicability to swimming. 4.3. Hydrostatics and hydrodynamics. 4.4. Types of resistance to body movement in water. 4.5. Propulsive forces in swimming 5. Analysis of swimming techniques. 6. Presentation and characterization of the disciplines of Water Polo and Artistic Swimming.

    Objectives

    1. Understanding, mastery and identification of the structure of the sport - Swimming and its history; 2. Integration of content for the development of a professional practice in teaching Swimming and training practitioners in the early stages of a swimmer's career; 3. Analysis and interpretation of the pedagogical plans of Swimming schools, from which one can select suitable teaching methodologies and prescribe lessons/trainings; 4. Mastery of swimming techniques in order to evaluate the performance of swimmers and select solutions for correcting errors.

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Students carry out most of their assignments in partnership with swimming schools, promoting the learning of the teaching process of swimming through observation and dialogue with peers followed by reflection. The carrying out of simulated teaching practice also facilitates the future teacher's ability to assess and prescribe swimming lessons/training.
