This curricular unit aims to show the main musculoskeletal injuries related to the practice of physical exercise and the general principles of care in face of trauma or sports injury. Additionally, this curricular unit addresses preventive strategies (primary, secondary and tertiary) with regard to sports injury, as well as essential knowledge for injury recovery.

Block A - Sports injury General principles of sports injury, types of injury, severity of injuries, acute and overuse injuries Injury mechanisms: trunk and upper limb Injury mechanisms: pelvis, hip and thigh Injury mechanisms: lower limb Injury recovery process Block B - Specific prescription in sports injury Primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention. Fundamentals of the fight against doping, doping substances, their organic effect, and precautions to be taken in athletes under chronic medication. Specific prescription in sports injury. Block C - Atitude perante a lesão e Abordagem à vítima Approach to major and minor sports injury Basic principles of Basic Life Support, and approach to sports-related concussion.

Objectives
Objectives
Recognize different injury mechanisms and develop critical thinking about the best strategy for action in the acute phase of the injury and in injury recovery. Recognize the risk factors for sports injuries and to identify and act on the modifiable factors. Have the ability to prescribe specific exercises or adapt the exercise to the athlete recovering from injury, or as a preventive strategy. Acquire basics on first aid and approach to sports injury.
