Class Political Thought

  • Presentation

    Presentation

The complexity of knowledge, in general, and of the Social and Human Sciences, in particular, requires students to identify the specificity of political thought. However, the complex nature of political phenomena, and their different forms of expression, requires awareness of both the interdisciplinary nature of political thought and its many forms of expression. This awareness is all the more necessary as technological development allows the dissemination of thought through new means of communication.

The Course Unit analyses the contestability of the concepts of thought, and politics, and the inter- and multidisciplinary nature, and the possible autonomy concerning ethics, religion, and law of political thought. It also distinguishes normative-prescriptive political thought, expressed in political theory, philosophy, ideology, utopias, and dystopias, from pre-scientific and scientific descriptive empiricism, and identifies some of its most important objects, such as, among others, justice, law, war, freedom, power, rights, and political regimes. The UC also underlines the different modes of expression of political thought, in poetry, literature, comics, sculpture, painting, cinema, music, and videogames and the impact of artificial intelligence in determining the scope of its   subjects and the innovative means of its dissemination. Finally, it shows the contribution of the political science to the development of political thought.
