Class Geometry 2.1

  • Presentation

    Presentation

The UC Geometry 2.1. in the context of architecture, is committed to the practice of graphical representation of space and objects in perspective. Considering the fundamental theorists and their methods in the field of perspective, it takes a historical approach since the Renaissance. By providing students with theoretical and practical knowledge about perspective for understanding and representing space, it functions as a grammar of drawing, bridging the needs of representation in architectural design. In its operability of logical-deductive rigor, it develops, on the one hand, a specific practice, on the other, and in its continuity, it provides fundamental scientific knowledge in the practice of drawing as an intellectual activity at the service of free, creative representation, but mainly in the formal investigation of organization of space in the act of designing in architecture.

  • Objectives

    Objectives

Encourage logical-deductive and spatial abstraction of student capabilities. Develop capabilities and to provide tools, for analysis and graphic representation. To build a representation attitude based on analytic and synthetic view regarding the world of objects and space. Acquire knowledge to use projective systems based on rigorous geometrical drawing representation to understand shapes, objects and space. Start a critical awareness questioning the relationship of Linear Perspective and its contextual developments in the history of civilization and the representation of the world. Understanding Linear Perspective as a mental tool of representation mediated by the mechanisms of optics, the foundations of perception, and a set of technical principles. Sensitize the student to the problematic of the limitations of the technical principles of the linear perspective. Develop the idea of ¿¿Geometry as a process of analysis and logic-deductive measure in the graphic representation process.

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

Continuous assessment UC applies the daily assessment methodology, compromising the student in a consequent teaching-learning process in all classes. In the different methodologies, there is constant use of the Drawing and Image Archive (ARQ) online, consisting entirely of works by former UC students.
