    Pharmacology focuses the knowledge of drugs, particularly the mechanisms of action implicated in their pharmacological effects. This curricular unit (CU) is thus crucial in a graduation in pharmaceutical sciences. After acquiring the basic knowledge in Pharmacology in the CU of Pharmacology I, Pharmacology II concentrates on the major drug classes. This allows students to acquire the pharmacological knowledge essential for a professional in Pharmaceutical Sciences, especially because the theoretical concepts will be continuously bridged with practical examples

    Objectives

    For the drug classes taught in the CU, students are expected to: - Describe the main mechanisms of drug action - Identify frequent side effects and drug interactions - Understand the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics properties and their influence on therapeutics - Understand the therapeutic uses of the major drug classes and identify representative drugs   The CU will also contribute to the development of transversal competences such as the ability to work in groups, the critical spirit, the ability to explain and communicate scientific topics, and the technical skills associated with laboratory work.

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Active learning methodologies using Case-based learning, and role-play  Gamification strategies will be used in classes, through the Kahoot and Wordwall programs. Teaching in the "Fieldwork" format, through study visits and/or seminars with external speakers, as part of the Lusófona Week of Contact with the Pharmaceutical Profession.
