The Curricular Unit of “Bioactives in Diet and Food Supplements” is part of the field of Food and Human Nutrition, with a specific focus on bioactive compounds present in food and supplements. This CU offers advanced training on the relationship between different types of diets, foods and the bioactive compounds they contain. The relevance of this CU in the study cycle lies in the ability of students to associate theoretical knowledge with practice, particularly with regard to the identification and use of bioactive compounds and food supplements, always with a focus on health and well-being. Through this CU, students will be better prepared to work professionally in areas that require a deep understanding of the interaction between nutrition and bioactive compounds, thus becoming more competent to face the current challenges in the area of Nutrition and Food.

Objectives
Objectives
The objective of this Course Unit is to provide advanced training on Bioactive Compounds present in Diet and in Food Supplements. Skills will be provided to enable the association of the main types of diet and foods with the various groups of bioactive compounds, as well as the choice of food supplements as foodstuffs in order to complement the usual diet whenever necessary. The acquisition and reinforcement of these concepts will allow a better performance of professional functions related to Food and Human Nutrition.
