The course unit "Education and Human Development" aims to contribute to the understanding of the role of education for development, presenting theoretical approaches and empirical cases that enhance the analysis of the relationship between education and human development. Priority is given to the theoretical-conceptual debate around development and observable dimensions in social reality with an impact on education, particularly in the scope of social inequalities. Besides strengthening the understanding of the present in the field of education and human development, we suggest paths of theorization and action-research turned to the future.

Objectives
Objectives
Besides the knowledge on theoretical approaches and empirical cases that enhance the analysis of the relationship between education and human development, this curricular unit promotes the acquisition of bibliographic, documental and statistical research skills, allowing a critical analysis and discussion of issues related to education and human development. Foreseeing moments of presentation led by students, in this curricular unit it will also be possible to develop oral communication, synthesis, argumentation and debate skills, besides scientific writing skills.

- Theoretical lessons with more expositive contents
- Theoretical-practical classes with analysis of statistical indicators and empirical cases
- Promotion of debate and continuous participation of students
- Use of audiovisual documentation integrating students' contributions
Evaluation
- Review of texts on education and human development (30%)
- Paper on the themes covered in the course (40%)
- Participation in classes, debates, presentation and exploration of contents (30%)
Evaluation criteria: ability to synthesize and frame the problem; original and critical argumentation; use and referencing of relevant sources; formal aspects and presentation.
