Objectives
Objectives
This curricular unit aims to promote understanding and knowledge of: Fundamental principles associated with metabolic dysregulations and associated health risks; Diagnostic criteria for Obesity, Diabetes mellitus type 2, Hypertension, Dyslipidemia, and Metabolic Syndrome; Food and nutrition guidelines and strategies for the prevention and treatment of Obesity, Diabetes mellitus type 2, Hypertension, Dyslipidemia, and Metabolic Syndrome; Exercise guidelines and strategies for the prevention and treatment of Obesity, Diabetes mellitus type 2, Hypertension, Dyslipidemia, and Metabolic Syndrome. This curricular unit also intends to enable students to properly analyze scientific literature on food and nutrition and exercise in the context of several metabolic diseases, promoting opportunities for analysis and discussion of the current evidence.

Teaching methodologies and assessment
It is adopted a theoretical-practical methodology that will focus on discussions within the classroom between students and the teacher, using elements and teaching strategies of theoretical (expository and interrogative methods) and theoretical-practical nature (practical tasks, visualization and discussion of digital content). It will also be used the system of b-learning (moodle) where support materials for each of the classes (slides and additional bibliography) will be available. The continuous assessment requires an attendance rate of 70% or more and comprises the completion of an oral presentation. To be approved, the student must obtain a minimum of 9,5 values. The student can choose to be assessed via a global appeal exam.
