This curricular unit is part of the Masters of Diplomacy and International Relations and of Political Science, Citizenship and Governance. It focuses on Lusophone countries and allows us to understand the current reality of these countries and their relationship within the CPLP. It also allows to present the political system and to measure how Lusophone countries are being governed using the Index of Good Governance Index and the Index of Democracy.

Concepts: Comparative policy and the steps of the comparative method Lusophone Space: definition; genesis; creation of the CPLP; difficulties resulting from the lack of definition of the project; current reality; future of the community. Political Systems of Lusophone Countries: Definition of a political system according to several political scientists; Constitutive elements of a political system; Evolution of the political system; Phase of the single party in several PALOP and opening to the multipartidarism; Military dictatorship in Brazil; Current reality of all Lusophone countries IIAG: Variables of the index; Evolution of the index in the PALOP Regional Integration: Portugal: from the Community to the EU; Brazil: the Mercosul; Integrations in Africa: African Union, SADC, ECOWAS, Commonwealth, Timor-Leste and ASEAN Relationships at the Lusosphere Level: Cooperation; Sectors and activities; Modalities and Amount

Objectives
Objectives: To identify the constitutive elements of the Lusosphere; Dominate the concepts that are part of a political system; Understand how the political system evolved in the Lusophone Space; Identify the variables that compose the Ibrahim Index of African Governance and the Index of Democracy; Relate the changes in the political system to the evolution of the IIAG; Inferring the pertinence, possibilities, and constraints of regional integration; To perceive the bi, multi and bi-multilateral relations of the Portuguese-speaking countries; Prospecting the role of Lusophone in the New World Order. Skills: Students should know the extent and comprehension of the concepts of Lusophony and Lusosphere. In addition, it is important that they understand the relations established between the political system and the IIAG or the Index of Democracy. They should also realize the realities and potentialities of relationships based on language, culture, and physical or geographical proximity

Teaching methodologies and assessment
The innovative methodologies to support the teaching-learning process are based on the active participation of students in the debate of the themes as a factor to acquire critical thinking and synthesis skills necessary for the elaboration of a critical review.
