    Content Description 1. Religious Traditions in Central, West, and North Africa Unifying and Divergent Characteristics 2. The African Diaspora in the New World and African-American Religious Traditions Characteristics Present in Afro-Indigenous, Afro-Christian, and Afro-Islamic Religions.
  • Objectives

    Objectives

    To lead students to: Acquire basic knowledge of the methodological, hermeneutical, conceptual, historical-religious, comparative, and bibliographical perspectives on the texts and thoughts on African-American religious traditions; Develop an understanding of the characteristics of African religions present in some New World religions; Develop a less prejudiced and more tolerant view of different religions.
  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodology: oral presentation of content; reading and discussion of texts; debate; presentation of archival and multimedia materials; sharing of documents via an e-learning platform; presentation of book reviews. Assessment: Assessment will consist of three phases: a written presentation of a review of an academic article in class (20%); a written analysis of a film (20%); and a written essay on a topic related to the course unit and to be determined during the sessions (60%).
