This CU allows students to deepen their knowledge of modern and contemporary art, aiming at a balance between theory and practice. The lectures are always accompanied by practical artistic projects to be carried out by the students, through which they will understand and experiment with the creative ideas and strategies previously addressed.

Socially engaged art. Art, ecology and activism - From William Morris to the present Rupture with tradition I. The emergence of photography and its impact on the visual arts. From Impressionism to Abstraction; from Pop Art to Visual Culture in contemporary times New languages, media and materials. From the cubist papier collé to the Assemblage ; from Minimalism to the concept of Expanded Field. Space and time. From artwork as an object to artwork as a process. From Futuristic Serate to Happenings, from Installation to Land Art Author and spectator. From the individual author to the artist collective, from the contemplative spectator to the active participant. Objectives
Objectives: To understand the importance of the artistic avant-gardes of the first half of the 20th century for the interpretation of contemporary artistic practices To develop the ability to analyse contemporary art by reading theoretical/critical texts and seeing works of art in cultural institutions. Acquire and explore some artistic concepts and methodologies. Reinforce the role of the art teacher as a creator of artistic-pedagogical objects. Deepen the relationship between art teaching and cultural institutions (e.g. libraries, museums). Skills to be acquired: Reflect on the world of contemporary arts in its conceptual and aesthetic bases. Know how to operate in practice with concepts associated with several art practices through exploration and experimentation of their techniques. Develop research skills in Visual Arts. Be able to create artistic-pedagogical materials, plan activities based on them and put them into practice.

Diversified teaching methodologies: Lecture-based classes on the syllabus through audiovisual media; Practical lessons through individual and group work with presentation and discussion. Tutorial guidance in the development of individual or group work. The regulating evaluation of teaching/learning privileges the formative dimension promoted through individual and group works. Parameters and evaluation criteria Participation, assiduity and cooperation (20%) Individual practical work in class or at home (30%); Group work: the creation of a pedagogical and artistic suitcase - an original pedagogic material - with a theoretical reflective text and the planning of a work unit (to be carried out in conjunction with the unit of Didactics of Visual Arts) (30%) Accompanying a cultural institution's educational service (20%) An Examination of Appeal or Improvement of Grade is foreseen at the end of the year.
