Sustainable Innovation: From Orange Peel to Essential Oil. Case Study from the Faculty of Engineering

Lusófona University took part in the 1st International FEE - EcoCampus Conference, which took place on 26 April 2024 at the Lisbon School of Education (ESELx). The institution was represented by the Faculty of Engineering's Eco-Schools project and by research into sustainability on campus, through the presentation of a scientific poster:
"Re-use and Valorisation of Orange Peel Waste from School Canteen for Essential Oil Production - A Case Study at Lusófona University."
This poster illustrates an innovative project developed under the Faculty of Engineering's Eco-Schools programme, showing the practical application of sustainability concepts and the active participation of the academic community in waste recovery projects.
study was presented by Pedro Carmona, a member of the Centre for Engineering Studies at the Faculty of Engineering (CEE-FE) at Lusófona University. The presentation dealt with the circular economy and the reuse of organic waste, highlighting the use of orange peels from the school canteen to produce essential oil. This research reflects Lusófona University's commitment to sustainable innovation and the integration of ecological practices in the university environment.
