The Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) has released the provisional results of the evaluation of Research and Development Units (R&D Units) under the 2023/2024 Multiannual Funding Programme for Research Units. The evaluation focused on the scientific and technological activities carried out by national R&D Units between 1 January 2018 and 31 December 2023, as well as on the objectives, strategy, activity plan, and organisation for the 2025 to 2029 period.

This is the most important evaluation process for Science and Innovation in Portugal, and Lusófona University received notable recognition, with nine of the Research Units in which it participates being awarded ratings of “Excellent” and “Very Good” across various fields of knowledge. This result marks a significant improvement compared to the previous evaluation, reinforcing Lusófona University’s position as a leading institution in the national scientific research landscape.

In the current assessment, three R&D Units involving Lusófona University received an “Excellent” rating, six were rated “Very Good”, and two received a “Good” rating.

Particularly noteworthy is the HEI-Lab – Human Environment and Interactions Lab, part of the Faculty of Psychology, which received the highest national rating in the field of Psychology, consolidating its position as a reference in scientific research in Portugal in this area. Also deserving of mention are the research units in Law (CEAD – Centre for Advanced Studies in Law), Communication and Arts (CICANT – Centre for Research in Applied Communication, Culture, and New Technologies), and Education (CEIED – Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies in Education and Development), all of which, with Lusófona University as the lead institution, received a “Very Good” rating.

The results of this evaluation process reflect a long-standing strategy of establishing Lusófona University within the national and European landscape of science and innovation, once again demonstrating and confirming the quality and excellence of the University’s teaching and research.
