Psychology Days: From Research to Practice
Debates, challenges and perspectives between experts in the field and students
11.04.24 - 16h22On 9 and 10 April, Universidade Lusófona - Centro Universitário Porto organised another edition of the Psychology Days. The main purpose of these days was to create a set of activities that would provide students with a broad approach to psychology, including its various contexts and fields, from research to practice.
The Psychology Days began with an opening session by Professor Inês Jongenelen, Professor Cátia Oliveira, Professor Carla Antunes, Professor Ana Rita Conde Dias and Professor Rita Pasion.
This was followed by a round table made up of the following top names: Professor Joana Carvalho (University of Aveiro), Professor João Batista (University of Minho), Professor Carolina Costa (i3S - Institute for Research and Innovation in Health, University of Porto). Moderating was Professor Alexandra Figueira (Lusófona University). This panel, characterised by the diversity of areas represented, provided different perspectives and addressed emerging themes and current programmes, such as anxiety and microbiology applied to psychology.
In the afternoon, the students had the opportunity to learn about the research activities carried out by lecturers at the Lusófona University, Porto University Centre. To round off the first day, the OPP Academy was held, an important initiative that brought together representatives of the Portuguese Psychologists' Association to discuss the challenges and prospects for future professionals in the field.
On the second day, participants were able to attend another round table. Professionals from different fields shared their experiences as psychologists, as well as the paths they have travelled during their careers. They also discussed the challenges of being a psychologist. The aim was also to give students the opportunity to ask their questions. The panel was made up of the following members: Professor Rosa Savedra (Associação Portuguesa de Apoio à Vítima do Porto), Professor Ana Santos (Criar - Clínica de Desenvolvimento e Saúde), Professor Helena Moreira (Unidade Local de Saúde do Tâmega e Sousa). Moderated by Professor Andreia Machado, Carlos Campos and Dulce Pinto.
The event offered a comprehensive view of psychology, promoting dialogue between experts and students. By highlighting both theory and practice, as well as offering insights into current research, the days emphasised the university's commitment to preparing future professionals in the field.
