Between 2 and 4 July, Universidade Lusófona - Centro Universitário Lisboa hosted the TAKE Conference 2024, dedicated to the knowledge economy. This eighth face-to-face edition brought together experts, researchers and professionals to discuss the challenges and opportunities in the post-pandemic scenario.

Under the theme ‘Working, Training, Learning, Unlearning and Relearning in Post-COVID-19 Societies’, the event provided a forum to explore how working practices, education and innovation are transforming. The need to re-evaluate traditional concepts in the light of new global realities was emphasised.

The conference opened with a workshop on ‘Gaming and Education’, given by Igor Lopes, followed by the official opening session with a speech by Marcos Ferasso. The programme included parallel sessions, a ‘Knowledge Café’ with Eduardo Tomé and Special Sessions that offered valuable insights into emerging themes.

Sandra Dingli, a Maltese philosopher specialising in Creative Thinking, led the session ‘Fake News and Lateral Thinking: Navigating the Erosion of Truth’, where participants explored how lateral thinking can debunk fake news and combat disinformation. Dingli highlighted the importance of developing critical skills to analyse information and promote a discourse based on truthfulness.

Darlene Russ-Eft led a session on ethics, offering a critical analysis of ethical practices in organisations and exploring the challenges in the digital age. The conference also featured an ‘Art Gallery’, where artists such as Peter Sharp, Karen Dix and Blazenka Knezevic exhibited their works, creating an interface between art and science.

On the final day of the conference, Radwan Kharabsheh presented a lecture and Alvin Oh discussed coaching and presented his book ‘Mind Powered Coaching’. Parallel sessions addressed topics such as innovation and competitiveness.

The TAKE Conference is known for bringing together different areas of expertise, such as Human Resources, Intellectual Capital, Knowledge Management, Logistics and Entrepreneurship, promoting an exchange of ideas that transcends traditional disciplines. The 2024 edition was no different, providing valuable insights into how theory can evolve in response to emerging practices and how different scientific perspectives can come together to solve complex problems.
