    Syllabus

    The course is organized in two complementary approaches. The first part is theoretical and focuses on critical analysis of the History of Design. The second part is centered on the development of theoretical-practical projects in which theoretical knowledge is applied through the construction of critical discourses embodied in Design projects. 1. From Gutenberg to the Industrial Revolution 2. The Industrial Revolution and its impact on the discipline of Design.  3. Art Nouveau, Private Press. 4. Avant-garde movements. 5. Modernism. 6. Consumer society. 7. Counterculture. 8. Postmodernism. 9. Other approaches to History.

    Objectives

    The main objective of this curricular unit is to provide students with general knowledge about the history of design, focusing on the discourses created through the construction of artifacts. By the end of the semester, students should be able to: - Recognize different basic movements in the History of Design. - Analyze the discourses underlying these movements and the objects created in these contexts. - Develop a critical and investigative spirit. - Adapt theoretical and critical knowledge of the History of Design to the practice of Design.
  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    An active methodology based on project-based learning (PBL) will be used. The aim is for students to investigate, explore, and produce critical content for the dissemination of design through the presentation of various theoretical and practical cases.  In class, bibliographic and cinematographic resources will be used to present theoretical content and case studies, to consolidate the content. Practice will involve complementary research into the topics covered and the production of content to support the study and dissemination of the History of Design. Assessment is continuous and includes the following parameters: - Attendance, commitment, and participation in class. - Participation in the exercises and analysis carried out in class.  - Completion and delivery of practical work within the established deadlines. - Oral presentation of the work developed.
