    Research Methodologies for Social Sciences is a unit of central interest in preparing students to produce scientific work throughout the Social Work degree, as it promotes the consolidation of knowledge and the acquisition and development of the operational and analytical-reflective skills required to construct the object. This curricular unit provides students with a first moment to understand and reflect on issues of common sense, knowledge in the social sciences, and scientific research in Social Work.

    O1: Equate the complexity of the research process and the use of epistemology O2: Understand the processes of producing scientific knowledge as opposed to common sense knowledge O3: Understand the importance of knowledge and research in Social Work for Social Intervention O4: Understand the role of theory in different epistemological traditions, namely the articulation between literature review and the construction of a conceptual framework in Social Work O5: Recognize the stages of the research process O6: Identify the main methods and techniques for collecting information O7: Know how to cite bibliography according to APA standards O8: Recognize the ethical issues linked to scientific research

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    The curricular unit is based on theoretical lectures and simulated practice. In addition to the readings and the exposition of the themes, discussions and practical exercises will also be promoted. Classes will be orientated towards analyzing and developing students' proposals. Students are expected to design group research projects and present them in the classroom, promoting the development of orality and the rules for presenting scientific work. The curricular unit will be completed based on a written test (50%) and the preparation and presentation of a pre-project (design), a research project in the area of Social Work (50%).
