    This Curricular Unit aims to present the main models of assessment and intervention in families and couples. It will focus on presenting the systemic model in intervention with families. In relation to intervention with couples, the diversity of existing models will be addressed (cognitive-behavioral model, systemic model, as well as the emotionally focused couples therapy model, based on the attachment theory).

    CP1: (In) definition of family and family diversity. The concept of family in transformation, a pair of socio-demographic changes. Issues for family intervention CP2: The family as a system. Family functions and structure. Family evaluation: space and time (synchronic and diachronic axis) CP3: The pragmatics of human communication and its impacts on family dynamics CP4: Crisis and change: normative and accidental crises; 1st and 2nd order change CP5: The family's life cycle: phases and developmental tasks CP6: Family intervention: systemic hypothesis (symptom value), circular interrogation, reframing; active techniques CP7: Strategies for evaluation and registering information: Genogram, Network map, Ecomap. CP8: Couple functioning. CP9: Couple Assessment and Intervention. CP10: Sexuality in couples: recognize implications for couples vs. sex therapy.

    Objectives

    LO1: Understand the main systemic model theoretical contributions to family assessment. LO2: Use techniques from the Systemic Model to intervene in therapeutic processes with families. LO3: Identify and inter-relate the main psychosocial factors that influence couples. LO4: Assess and apply intervention strategies in the couple's main relational and sexual difficulties.
