This curricular unit aims to develop skills for the practice of research, namely in terms of the design, planning and conducting of research. It also aims to develop critical reflection skills to question the problems that are encountered in educational practice and to seek information to answer these problems and investigate the effectiveness of these solutions.

1 Specificities and foundations of research methodologies in Social and Human Sciences and Education. 1.1 Epistemological issues within the quantitative and qualitative paradigms. 2. Ethics in scientific research in Education. 3. The scientific research process: nature and characteristics; elements of a research plan. 3.1 Formulating the problem and research questions 3.2 The role of theory. Literature review: meaning and importance of scientific updating 3.3 Research methods: characteristics, methods of application and validation, potential and limits. 3.3.1 Case studies/multi-case studies 3.3.2 Observation 3.3.3 In-depth interviews 3.3.4 Questionnaire survey; 3.3.5 Interview survey. 3.3.6 Action research. 3.4 Analysing data 3.5 Problems of validating and generalising results.

To understand the processes of scientific knowledge production Discover the steps of the process of constructing a scientific research Develop critical sense in the reading and discussion of scientific papers Be able to define problems and research objects in the Education field by formulating your starting question Define general and specific objectives in a concise and objective manner Find appropriate methodologies for the proposed research objects Develop an autonomous research project in the selected field Be able to conduct your research in order to ensure the reliability of the instruments and the validity of the research Be able to apply the appropriate data analysis techniques to the data collected Know how to elaborate a report of scientific research, with the proper representation of all constituent parts, including bibliographical references and citations
