    This course offers an introduction to Drawing and Illustration as expressive, projective and reflective resources in Design. Through exercises that combine observation and conceptual work with experimentation with techniques, materials and expressive solutions, the aim is to expand students' visual culture and provide tools for thinking and acting in the field of illustration.

    Syllabus

    Sketching from nature and architecture; observation drawing; image transfer; frottages; collages, etc.   Visualisation structures: Composition through drawing and collecting materials; manipulation of objects and their graphic representation. Characteristics of graphic form. Types of graphic register: gestural, volumetric, diagrammatic and contour drawing.   (Re)connecting image and text . Deconstructing and manipulating the design of a letter to the point of abstraction. Negative space and positive space from the letter. . Calligrams and ideograms.    Photography as a reference and tool for producing images.

    Objectives

    . Expansion of visual culture and the very meaning of Drawing, through contact with different fields of knowledge and production (visual arts; illustration, comics, cinema, etc); . Recognising Illustration as a speculative process; . Fostering a reflexive and critical attitude towards visual communication and the world in general; . Developing skills and sensitivity in terms of perception and observation; . Creating graphic languages, as well as environments and compositions, with the aim of understanding and realising a relationship between the concept and the final image; . Recognising the role of illustration in developing and formalising ideas in the design process. . Promoting creativity and developing self-knowledge and self-expression.
