Presentation
The course aims to present the discourses and languages ¿¿present in contemporary photography. Establish whenever possible the necessary links with the disciplinary areas of art and contemporary discourses, cinema and the media. Recognize the photographic image as an object of thought and knowledge, in its varied contexts. Develop skills and research methodologies, which allow the development of theoretical work with presentation to the class. To apprehend concepts inherent to contemporary photographic and artistic practice. Be able to produce practical exercises in photographic language.

1- Photography as art, art as photography. 2- Photography in relation to the concepts of appropriation, reproduction and quotation; around the works of Sophie Calle, Christian Boltanski, Cindy Sherman, Sherrie Levine, Richard Prince, among others; 3- The cinematic and the relationship with the moving image - from Jeff Wall to David Claerbout; 4- Approaches to cinema - from Michelangelo Antonioni to Douglas Gordon; ¿ 5- Archives and memory; from Aby Warburg to Wolfgang Tillmans¿ 6 - The Dusseldorf school and its main protagonists; 7 - The image as object; 8- Ethics and aesthetics; 9- The crisis in the image, real vs virtual, AI and its paradigms; 10 - Contemporary visual discourses and narratives; 11 - Design and develop a project; 12- Festivals (e.g. Imago Photo Festival, Encontros de Imagem); platforms (Parallel Platform); exhibitions and publications

Objectives
-Address the main trends, themes and discourses of contemporary artistic photography and its stakeholders. - to analyze the diversity of contemporary uses of photography in the context of the history of photographic image and of artistic practices and theories in general. -Develop critical and analytical skills. -Contextualize artists/photographers, practices and uses of contemporary photography; Relate formal/aesthetic aspects, with the various contexts and categories. _ Start practicing photography projects. _ Develop research capabilities.

Teaching methodologies and assessment
The curricular unit has a theoretical-practical nature, including the presence of practical exercises. In this way, the methodologies range from the development of cognitive and reflective skills, encouraging analysis and criticism, to proposals for statements to carry out practical exercises. Study visits to exhibitions and festivals / visits to artists’ studios;
