Class Biochemistry I

  • Presentation

    Presentation

Biochemistry is an interdisciplinary science that involves an interrelationship between basic disciplines such as chemistry and biology. Biochemistry has a very important role in several areas, particularly in the Food and Pharmaceutical Industries, in the Environment, in the various aspects of Toxicology and in the Health area.

  • Objectives

    Objectives

The discipline of Biochemistry I aims to define the concept of biochemical reaction, introduce students to the different actors of biochemistry (water and biomolecules) and introduce the great biochemical functions such as the functioning of enzymes, bioenergetics and biological information. Students should know and understand the structure and properties of the major classes of biomolecules (carbohydrates, lipids, amino acids and proteins and nucleic acids) and their interactions with the solvent water. Capacity in basic methodology in the scope of Biochemistry (realization of reagent solutions, colorimetry, liquid chromatography, solid support chromatography, calibrations, spectrophotometry). At the conclusion of the course, students should master the bases that will allow them to approach the curricular unit of Biochemistry II.
  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

Knowledge progression tests throughout the semester were carried out at home through the learning platform. Pedagogical games in the classroom capture students' attention and motivate learning. Fieldwork” teaching through a seminar on the subject of biochemistry as a basic science for understanding biological phenomena.
