Lecturers and students from Lusófona explore, in an unprecedented collection, the multiple revolutions triggered by 25 April
Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
Students and lecturers from Lusófona University paid tribute to the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April 1974, engaging in an educational research project which resulted in the collection As Revoluções da Revolução (The Revolutions of the Revolution).
Cristiana Almeida, lecturer in Social Work, recalls the creation process and purpose of this project. "We want to show that the 25th of April Revolution was not merely a political change, but a set of small revolutions that transformed people’s daily lives," states the Professor, co-coordinator of the project. The four books thus highlight the importance of reflecting on the social and political transformations that have shaped Portuguese society over the past five decades.
Each book addresses different areas of research and themes, ranging from statistical portraits of the evolution of employment, unemployment, birth and mortality rates in Portugal, to the rights and opportunities of workers, as well as women’s rights and the social policies implemented throughout the last fifty years.
Professor Cristiana Almeida emphasises that the collection goes beyond theoretical analysis, aiming to give voice to those who never had the opportunity to share their experiences. "It is essential to listen to the voices of those who lived through these changes. History is not only made of dates, but of people and their lived experiences," concludes Professor Cristiana Almeida.
This project, which involved the collaboration of lecturers and students from various courses within the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences of the Enterprise (FCESE), was a complex endeavour that required an entire academic year of preparation and research. The collective effort of all participants promises to enrich the understanding of Portugal’s recent history and its impact on community life.
