Study looks at how young people consume news, exploring diversity, gender and news avoidance, with questionnaires, interviews and training activities
Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
The YouNDigital Project – Youth, News, and Digital Citizenship investigates how young people interact with the news ecosystem, exploring topics such as diversity, gender, and news avoidance. Based on a literature review, the team identified gaps in research on news consumption among young people from different backgrounds, including vulnerable communities and diverse nationalities.
In the fieldwork, a nationally representative survey was conducted with young people aged 15 to 24, complemented by interviews with news influencers. The results reveal a detachment of young people from the school context regarding the digital world and information platforms, as well as a widespread perception of the news as monotonous and unappealing.
To address this challenge, the project includes training actions aimed at young people, teachers, and journalists. Currently, webinars and educational sessions are being developed in partnership with the Directorate-General for Education. Scheduled to be completed in June 2025, the project is already seeking new international collaborations to expand its impact.
