Presentation
The School of Communication, Architecture, Arts and Information Technologies (ECATI) presents itself as an innovative university project in the Portuguese panorama and in the European space of university education. It is aimed at the development of training at all levels of higher education, degrees, masters and doctorates, and for which it has recognized diplomas in a wide area of already consolidated knowledge and new disciplines. Fully organized according to the rules of the Bologna Treaty, ECATI is a pioneering organic unit in Portugal, articulating studies in:
- Communication and Humanities;
- Architecture, Arts and Design;
- Multimedia, Cinema and Video;
- Computer engineering and information systems.
ECATI's highly articulated, rigorous and integrated training strategy creates the necessary and indispensable conditions for students to creatively respond to the challenges arising from the information and knowledge society. The growing trend towards globalization advises against the artificial separation of technological and professional training, training in the various branches of communication sciences, as well as training in arts and design, training in information systems and architecture, with the ultimate objective of creation of a set of unique synergies in the national context. At the center of its objectives is to provide students with skills that allow them to be autonomous and create new knowledge, having shown up until now as a place of great entrepreneurship.
Without ever losing sight of the specificity of each area of knowledge, ECATI constitutes a training space of great amplitude where diverse complementary knowledge is provided, both horizontally, between the different cycles of studies of the same level, and vertically, in the possibility of integrating its students in the different degrees that it confers. Its students obtain training that allows them to cope, in an excellent way, with an increasingly competitive and expanded space such as Europe, without neglecting, however, to provide students with knowledge that allows them to have an intervention in the space lusófona.
ECATI combines graduate and advanced training, research and the provision of services to the community, support for professional training and also the promotion of cultural and scientific activities, seeking to always be in line with the needs of civil society. An example of this is the existence of a Creative and Technological Incubator - PLAY - Projects Lab Alliance for You
To fulfill its objectives, ECATI has a team of highly qualified teachers in permanent training, as well as three Research Centers accredited by the Foundation for Science and Technology: Cic.Digital/CICANT, Copelabs and LEAU, which cover the various scientific areas of their training. The School also has three scientific journals, Kaleidoscope: Journal of Communication and Culture, Kino - international journal of film and media arts and Revista de Lusófona de Arquitectura e Educação.
ECATI makes available, for the different activities, appropriate spaces and equipment that are among the most advanced in the country.
Internationalization constitutes a central axis of development of the ECATI project, as can be seen from the existence of more than two hundred Erasmus mobility agreements for students and teachers with different institutions in the European space, due to the fact that ECATI is the coordinator of the only European Erasmus Mundus Masters already approved by the European Commission for our country under the new European framework, the Masters - Kino Eyes - The European Movie Masters- . Erasmus + ref. 553676-EPP-1-2014-1-PT-EPPKA1-JMD-MOB, whose associated institutions are Edingburgh Napier University and the Baltic Film School; and the fact that ECATI is the coordinator and promoter of several European training and research projects, with emphasis on the H2020 ResponSeable project and the Knowledge Alliances project, Ciakl II. For all these reasons, ECATI is today an internationally recognized and prestigious school, and the projects of its students find wide international dissemination in the most varied forums and the quality of its graduates is widely recognized by dozens of entities that come to us every year in the scope of the most varied recruitment processes.
