
Conference Cycle Ugly Fruits NOT!
Educational programme on demystifying the appearance of food
25.06.24 - 13h25On 22 May, Lusófona University hosted another edition of the "Ugly Fruits NOT!" event, which brought together experts and professionals from the food sector to discuss and promote practices focused on combating food waste in Portugal. Held in Lisbon, it attracted students and citizens interested in contributing to a greener and more sustainable future.
The first session, entitled "Strategies to Combat Food Waste", was attended by Francisco Caldeira, from the National Commission to Combat Food Waste; Pedro Lago, from the SONAE Group, Rita Cruz, from the Auchan Group, Jorge Soares, from the Alcobaça Apple Producers Association and Mariana Lemos Figueiredo, from Adega Lemos Figueiredo.
The event aims to raise awareness of the use of fruit and vegetables outside conventional aesthetic standards, educating producers and consumers about the importance of sustainability and reducing waste in the food chain. The project's new Digital Platform was also presented, where participants were able to explore the available content and reflect on its impact, to ensure the project's continued success.
