
Kennels in Aquatic Environment
Specialists from various areas gathered on May 5th, at Universidade Lusófona, for an event on Canis-lobos and dogs in an aquatic environment.
16.05.23 - 10h05The objective of the event was to discuss the adaptation of dogs to this environment and their trends in presence in aquatic environments, as well as their historical use in activities such as fishing and delivering messages between mail boats.
>The event had several participants including Laurentina Pedroso, Maria Eduarda Pires, Francesca Lugli, Susana Jacobetty, João Bettencourt Bacelar, Mara João Valente, Baine Ostrander, Ana Elisabete Pires, Ludmila Paixão Blaschikoff, Margarida Alves, Francisco Petrucc Fonseca , Clea Detry, Cristina Lopes and Daiana Ferreira.
During the event, ethnographic research on Portuguese traditions related to dogs in aquatic environments was presented. The Portuguese water dog breed, which was once considered the rarest in the world, was also discussed as an animal genetic resource of high relevance in the national and international context.
The experts highlighted the beauty, genetic differentiation and adaptability of dogs in aquatic environments, as well as their usefulness in human activities such as education and social assistance. This event was an opportunity to explore the fascination surrounding this cultural heritage and to deepen understanding of the relationship between dogs and the aquatic environment.
