On 3 and 4 July 2025, Lusófona University - Lisbon University Centre hosted the conference Shaping the Future Places of Life (Act 1 – Defining Architectural and Urban Ambiances), an event marking the official launch of the European COST Action CA23145 and bringing together experts from multiple fields to discuss the concept of architectural and urban ambiances.
The conference, part of the CitySenZ cycle “Dessine-moi une ambiance”, proposed an interdisciplinary debate that brought together contributions from architecture, urban planning, philosophy, art, technology, cognitive sciences, and other disciplines, with the aim of deepening the theoretical and methodological foundations underpinning the notion of ambiance.
The topics addressed included the sensory experience of spaces, methods of observation and simulation, architectural and urban perception, as well as the cultural and political implications of a sensitive urban project.
With a broad programme and both national and international contributions, the event stood out as a space for reflection and the construction of new perspectives on how we conceive and live in the places of the future.
