Workshop Physical Exercise with Blood Flow Restriction

ULusófona organises workshop for sports students in collaboration with the University of A Coruña

29.11.23 - 12h31

On 22 November, Universidade Lusófona had the honour of welcoming Eduardo Carballeira Fernández and Marta Sevilla Sánchez, two professors and researchers from the University of A Coruña in Spain. The event consisted of a workshop with practical and theoretical sessions, divided into two sessions.

In the morning session, they presented two courses: one on speed-based training and the other on the assessment and prescription of exercises. In the afternoon, there was training in BFR (Blood Flow Restriction), an innovative subject that is arousing the curiosity of students and sports professionals. There were also two practical exercises with BFRs, in which the students were able to experiment and understand the differences between using tourniquets when carrying out physical exercise.

Throughout the workshop, Eduardo Fernández discussed the assessment and prescription of strength exercises in different contexts, covering both sports and health. For her part, Marta Sánchez discussed the effect and importance of physical exercise throughout the ageing process, providing clear and methodological indications on the prescription of training to slow down the decay of functional processes in older people.

This collaboration between universities, made possible by the Erasmus project, allows lecturers to collaborate on research projects. The relevance of this partnership lies in the introduction of innovative themes resulting from their research.

The event was organised by the directors of the second cycle in exercise and health, namely Professor Lucimere Bohn, Professor Inês Aleixo and Professor José Pedro Guimarães. They are dedicated to researching specific themes in order to broaden horizons and explore alternative and professional areas.
